As I'm sure you are aware I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the tour (even the early mornings). Everything exceeded my expectations because having not done anything quite like this before I wasn't quite sure how it would all work and was  apprehensive about how my approach to and level of photography skills would stack up.

In general, I loved being out in the beautiful NZ environment in all weathers, in pristine environments, off the beaten track and taking the road less traveled. Your knowledge of and access to locations both public and private linked to the ability to flex the schedule to adapt to changing situations was remarkable. To travel for example, through the Nevis Valley away from everyone else was an extraordinary experience as was the local knowledge to dodge the tourist crowds.
In a way for me, the photography was secondary to being immersed in the landscape and the wildlife. The whole experience was also balanced by fantastic accommodation, food options and the opportunities to view and photograph historical, cultural and more urban settings.
The level of organisation, attention to detail and ability to pack each day with apparently endless highlights guaranteed to make  the trip memorable. Even though we were on the go all day, we squeezed the day for every opportunity and the rest times in Queenstown provided any necessary downtime.
All three tutors were incredibly attentive, patient, accessible and able to make the complex appear achievable (even simple sometimes). No question seemed too stupid or request for help too annoying. Your explanations made sense and were provided at the teachable moment for me. As a teacher myself, I appreciated the scaffolding of my learning, the direct 1:1 tuition and feedback on my images and countless opportunities for interaction and watching how you all approached the art of photography.
Thank you (for me at least) for not being overly technical and reminding me of the importance of vision and getting it right in camera.
The best teachers know what to teach, how to teach and who they teach. Teaching adults with very diverse needs, experiences and abilities is no easy task yet you all displayed great interpersonal skills to facilitate the development of a relaxed and open teaching/learning environment. I loved the obvious passion you have for photography, the honesty of your interaction and the focus on us as clients. I always felt the priority was my learning and that of the group.

Anita Rooney, Ultimate New Zealand Photo Tour, April 2019

A wonderful 17 day tour of the highlights of New Zealand's South Island . It was such a great experience on many levels and I thoroughly enjoyed every single moment - even getting out of bed for sunrise (once I was up!).

From my point of view the components that made the tour so good were: 1. The skills of the team to deal with a range of very diverse people in terms of their knowledge/experience, equipment, learning needs and recognise the teachable moments for that person and intervene to optimise their learning. 2. The combination of knowledge of where to go and how to schedule the tour to ensure variety and interest, combined with learning opportunities and teaching techniques (and encouragement) that improved my photography so much. 3. The organisation that underpinned the tour was fantastic. It all appeared to be very calm and totally under control. It was also great to have wonderful accommodation and dining options.
Overall, I really can't believe how much I learned over such a limited amount of time. I even came home with some great shots! In particular I think that I have a really developed some 'camera fitness' which means that I'm not thinking about the camera settings and technical aspects of my photography and can now focus more on the creative side - especially composition aspects. This should even improve my photography even more!

Debbie Sutton, Ultimate New Zealand Photo Tour, April 2019

"Wonderful weekend workshop in Tongariro... Instructors Ken and Shaun were excellent; nice mix of "class time" and lots of hands on landscape experience. Would absolutely do another workshop with these folks!

Cathy W, Tongariro Weekend Workshop, April 2019

I recently attend the Autumn colours workshop in Wanaka. I just wanted to say a huge thank you to both Rob and Richard.

Coming to these workshops means not having to scout out locations prior, instead you are taken to amazing locations with all the research having been done in relation to best time of the day in order to get the best possible photographs. This enables us to create some magic with what we end up capturing - or gives us the opportunity to create magic. The time you give and the willingness to share your knowledge to us all is amazing. It is also great that the first focus on helping us get good shots, other places I have been the tutors have been more about having people to go out and take photos with. My challenge now is to be able to capture something half as good on my own having done my own homework! Anyway, if you haven’t guessed I think your workshops etc are first class!
Bridget Sloane, 4-Day Autumn Masterclass, April 2019

"I attended the long exposure master class with Richard and Ken in November. The accomodation (Russell) in the Bay of Islands was outstanding and the program included visiting some fabulous locations on both east and west coasts of the North Island. We received plenty of one on one coaching and I really enjoyed being guided through the practical application of the techniques on the job so to speak. The workshop included the capture, processing and then printing of the image which really enhanced our experience. I think this is as good as it gets, fabulous experience"

Bob Pullein, Northland Photo Tour, November 2018

This experience was the highlight of my trip to NZ, which was packed with great experiences! We started out with an overview of the agenda, and Dave took time to learn where I was as far as knowledge and experience. I was pleased that he was able to teach from my starting point, while all the while adding layers of reinforcement, adjustment and new skills. Wow, my head was packed full by the time we were done! He really understands the art and science of photography. But more importantly, he understands how to teach. In photography, it can be difficult to find someone to share their secrets and their knowledge, but I was sincerely impressed at his making very sure I came away from this workshop with a good body of knowledge! I recommend NZ Photography Workshops without hesitation or reservation. Just do it!!

The professionalism of Richard started well before the tour did. I booked 8 months ahead and I was always kept well informed of tour details by Richard. The tour started with Richard and Shaun determining our proficiency levels and what we expected to get from the tour. This was followed by a one hour education session on camera settings for the different types of photography we'd be doing on the tour. Each day started with a dawn shoot and finished with a sunset. The day time hours were also busy at different locations. Richard and Shaun were always on hand to offer tips on settings and composition. Just one day was marred by rain so a review of our selected images was done one afternoon where I picked some useful processing tips. The accommodation along the way was always good. And the evening meals were always fantastic. I would thoroughly recommend New Zealand Photography Workshops to anyone interested in furthering their photographic skills whilst being thoroughly looked after.

Mark S, West Coast Wilderness Tour, September 2018

The best and most comprehensive photography tour on the South Island.

This tour led by Richard Young totally exceeded my expectations. Richard is a very accomplished photographer who very generously shared his expertise in the field and in editing sessions. In addition he provided handouts he had written on the topics of coastal , waterfalls, long exposure, bird, mountain landscape, and astro photography that were excellent guides that included suggested camera settings and recommended filters. Richard as a leader was incredibly energetic and enthusiastic from pre-dawn assembly to the end of the day sunset shoots and dinner together. Rob Brown, the second tour leader, has a huge amount of experience as a landscape photographer and conservationist and it was very interesting to gain his insight and to have the benefit of his perspective on photography and preserving the environment. I would recommend this tour to anyone who has a passion for the natural landscape and wildlife. Beginners and seasoned photographers will find this tour to be a fulfilling experience that will long be remembered.

Helen Doniskeller, Wild South Island Tour, April 2018

The best photography workshop ever!

I am a solo female traveler from India and was traveling to New Zealand for the first time. Since I was all by myself and did not know anybody in this new country, I signed up with New Zealand Photography Workshops for three photo tours. I enjoyed each one of them thoroughly. What is really special about Richard is that he is not only a great photographer but also an amazing tour guide! Also he is very thorough with camera settings and Lightroom and a great teacher. He makes it really simple to learn how to take great pictures! He is also extremely well organised and does not waste a single moment on the tour! And he is very professional and goes an extra mile to make sure your needs on the tour are met! I also needed my own pictures at various locations for my blog which Richard didn’t mind taking. In fact, he went out of his way to stop at cute little towns on our way, which he thought would make interesting content for my Instagram and blog - he didn’t have to do it but like I said he went an extra mile to help me! It was a fantastic introduction to the most beautiful country in the world! I highly recommend starting your travels in New Zealand with their workshops! You won’t regret it!

Gunjan V, Mt Cook, Tongariro, Cape Palliser Private Tours, March 2018

Tough morning weather wise in Wellington (raining and low cloud) for a 1 Day Photographic workshop but Richard was enthusiastic and very well organised. He selected interesting locations to set up in the Wellington area and the weather became a non issue and later cleared. I liked the way he explained different concepts and methods for landscape photography especially regarding appropriate settings and subject matter. As you can see (attached photo) we spent some time at a coastal location using tripods and filters which gave me some useful ideas. Thoroughly enjoyed the day and highly recommend Richard for whatever level you are at in your photographic journey.

John R, Private 1-Day Wellington Tour, January 2018

I did a 3 day individual workshop with Richard in December 2017. We concentrated on Tongariro Park, but also made some stops on route to Palmerston North airport. Let me start by saying that Richard is one of the kindest young men I know. He is somehow totally organised and completely relaxed, so that I could concentrate entirely on my photography. I told him what I hoped to achieve in the workshop, and he delivered. We concentrated on shooting, but reserved plenty of time for post work and Lightroom instruction. I highly recommend Richard if you want to take your photography to the next level.

Colleen C, Private 3-Day Tongariro Tour, December 2017

I took the 17 day South Island Tour and it was the best treat I have ever given myself. I can highly recommend the tour. Richard and Rob are both highly accomplished photographers and keen to pass on their experience. I can honestly say I learned more on the tour than a lifetime of teaching myself.

David Todhunter, 17-day South Island tour, April 2017

This is my second trip New Zealand Photography Workshops Ltd. I have met many great people with shared interests in photography and nature. Many of the fellow photographers have been with Richard on multiple trips like me and this says it all. With Richard and Rob Brown’s knowledge about the best locations around New Zealand, we have produced many stunning photos under the technical guidance from the workshop. Should I mention the accommodations and food? Certainly, Wow is the word. I am totally spoiled. Time to start to book for the next trip!

Yoa Liu, Doubtful & Milford Sound, May 2017

Fantastic weekend workshop and worth every cent. Richard is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about his photography, enthusiastic about imparting his knowledge. Great workshop for learning to use your camera in manual mode. The location was superb, along with the weather and also a great group of people.

Stuart Braithwaite‎, Tongariro Workshop, April 2017

Thank you Richard and Rob so much for a wonderful 7-Day West Coast South Island Tour. Your energy and enthusiasm was enjoyable and we were indeed impressed with your culinary skills when staying at the house at Punakaiki. It's taken a long time to process my photos and I'm really pleased with quite a few of them.
‎Julie Simpson‎, 7-day West Coast, September 2016

Fantastic workshop and worth every cent. Richard was fantastic from start to finish, he is extremely passionate about photography and eager to help everyone on the workshop. The weather was wild on our first day but Richard knew exactly where to take us to get good shots. Plenty to see and photograph on this workshop. Trevor Penfold was also on hand to help us and answer questions etc. Great Weekend.

Lou Kibby, Weekend Tongariro, August 2016

_Best treat to myself this year. Richard and Rob shared their enthusiasm and professional knowledge unreservedly with us. The trip was well catered to people with various levels, both physically and technically. It was a pleasantly intense learning experience. I came back with not only loads of exciting photos but also, and most importantly, with the improved aesthetic knowledge that equipped me the ability to be critical. I have been in the 365 project for over 3 years, it is the first time that the photo from this trip photo is elected as the top 20 photos of the week.

Yoa Liu, Mt Cook workshop, May 2016

_-2I wanted to say how much we both enjoyed our trip and how much we learn from you!!! Still it does seem a bit frustrating at times (I guess that’s normal). I am glad you think we have  both improved (well William did say he didn’t even know how to switch on a camera on our first workshop!). I am feeling I am getting to know my Nikon, but I think this takes time. Your courses always inspire me to take the time to use it more.

Kathy Peake, Kathy Peake – Cape Palliser Weekend Workshop, April 2016

THANK YOU RICHARD, I had an awesome experience and you were great at your job!

Marvin Chaw, 3-day Bespoke Tongariro, February 2016

My partner booked me a one day one on one photography tour with Richard as a surprise xmas present. Communication was excellent with Richard leading up to the tour (after I received the gift) and really wanted to tailor the day around what I like to shoot. He had already researched my photography page to get an idea of the shots I might like. The weather on the day was a little too good, however Richard made sure we good some good shots. Throughout the entire day I always felt comfortable with Richard and felt as though the ball was in my court. I wasnt pressured to go anywhere I didnt want to or take shots that were not of my interest. Richards knowledge in photography was amazing, I really learnt so many new things as well as coming away with some riper shots. I would honestly recommend this to anyone of all levels. Thanks again Richard
