Our Central Otago photography tour is programmed in for the month of April when the Autumn colours are at their best. With landscape photographers Rob Brown and Richard Young as your guides, and utilising comfortable 4WD vehicles, we will be able to take you into some of the most interesting and photogenic places of Central Otago.
We will base ourselves in Wanaka in excellent accommodation and there will be time during the evenings to download our photographs and work on post-processing.
If you are arriving via Queenstown airport we can pick you up the day before and that evening your guide will meet with all participants to discuss the programme.
Capture to Print Masterclass Workshop: Our Autumn Masterclass is designed to perfect the techniques of shooting Autumn colours, high country landscapes and panoramic landscape photography; with dedicated tuition sessions and notes on these subjects. The workshop concludes with a processing session and printing a 17x22" fine art print of one of your images using the latest Epson SC-P800 printer. We will also have a number of Benro Long Exposure filters kits along with Nikon cameras & lenses available for shared use during the workshop to help you capture some stunning photographs.

4-day 4x4 tour
The course starts with a short briefing on the next few days and a morning classroom session to get everyone up to speed before we explore some autumn locations around Wanaka. In the late afternoon, we head out in 4WD's to capture the high country around Wanaka.
A pre-dawn start sees us heading into the Nevis Valley for sunrise. We spend all day driving through the Nevis and finish with a sunset shoot around Alexander before heading back to Wanaka.
We head up into the autumn colours of Alexandra in the morning before finishing at a highland location in the Central Otago mountains. The landscape here is quite different to what we have experienced around Wanaka, and there is always the chance of being able to photograph New Zealand falcons at one the locations we choose for sunset.
After an early morning sunrise shoot around Wanaka, we will use the hotel's conference room for an in-depth post-production session covering the processing of Autumn colour photography, high country landscapes and merging panoramas. We will help you process your best image from the workshop and produce a finished 17x22" fine art print to take home. before returning to Queenstown to connect with late afternoon flights.
The order of each day's shoot may be changed due to weather, but we will go to all of these places on the itinerary.
Maximum group size of 8. Groups of 3-4 will be led by only one tutor and groups of 5-8 will be led by two tutors. Limiting class sizes ensures we provide you with the best learning environment possible, including expert guidance, instruction and personal attention, according to your learning style.
Our exact schedule will be determined according to the whole group’s photographic objectives and the weather. We keep a flexible itinerary to accommodate this. We will spend the workshop instructing and shooting, often from before dawn until after dark. At some point during the weekend the tutors will give a lecture on their photographic ability and how you can apply their systems and vision to develop your own unique style.
We will meet the group at Queenstown Airport at the start of the workshop and provide transport to the whole workshop and return you to Queenstown at the end of the workshop.
A minimum level of physical activity is necessary to enjoy the workshop. All locations we shoot will be within an easy walk along the coastline, but sometimes over rocky beaches carrying your own equipment. If fitness or mobility is an issue please let us know - there are often locations which offer great shooting possibilities close to the road or our accommodation, or sometimes we also have the option to split the group.
Equipment & Experience
Ideally, you will have a basic knowledge of photography and be comfortable adjusting camera settings such as aperture and shutter speed. An aim of the workshop is to give you more confidence in the creative control of camera settings and shooting in manual mode. We will have a brief session at the start of the workshop, covering camera settings and controls, to be sure everyone is up to speed.
