Peter Laurenson lives in Wellington with his partner and three sons.
Since leaving New Zealand on his OE in 1988, he and his camera have been drawn to many mountain places, in particular the Himalaya and back home in New Zealand’s beautiful North and South Islands.From hiking and trekking beginnings he joined the New Zealand Alpine Club (NZAC) in 2002 and has since become an occasional climber, balancing time in the mountains with work and family commitments.
Peter writes quite regularly for Wilderness Magazine and has won occasional FMC and NZAC annual photo competition awards, including the NZAC overall winner (John Harrison memorial trophy) in 2014. Peter was a judge for the Wellington Section Photo competition for the last 4 years. In 2019 he became the new editor for the quarterly FMC Backcountry and, along with this, takes on the role of judge for the annual FMC photography awards.
