Testimonials

I took the 17 day South Island Tour and it was the best treat I have ever given myself. I can highly recommend the tour. Richard and Rob are both highly accomplished photographers and keen to pass on their experience. I can honestly say I learned more on the tour than a lifetime of teaching myself.

This is my second trip New Zealand Photography Workshops Ltd. I have met many great people with shared interests in photography and nature. Many of the fellow photographers have been with Richard on multiple trips like me and this says it all. With Richard and Rob Brown’s knowledge about the best locations around New Zealand, we have produced many stunning photos under the technical guidance from the workshop. Should I mention the accommodations and food? Certainly, Wow is the word. I am totally spoiled. Time to start to book for the next trip!

Fantastic weekend workshop and worth every cent. Richard is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about his photography, enthusiastic about imparting his knowledge. Great workshop for learning to use your camera in manual mode. The location was superb, along with the weather and also a great group of people.

Thank you Richard and Rob so much for a wonderful 7-Day West Coast South Island Tour. Your energy and enthusiasm was enjoyable and we were indeed impressed with your culinary skills when staying at the house at Punakaiki. It’s taken a long time to process my photos and I’m really pleased with quite a few of them.

Fantastic workshop and worth every cent. Richard was fantastic from start to finish, he is extremely passionate about photography and eager to help everyone on the workshop. The weather was wild on our first day but Richard knew exactly where to take us to get good shots. Plenty to see and photograph on this workshop. Trevor Penfold was also on hand to help us and answer questions etc. Great Weekend.

_Best treat to myself this year. Richard and Rob shared their enthusiasm and professional knowledge unreservedly with us. The trip was well catered to people with various levels, both physically and technically. It was a pleasantly intense learning experience. I came back with not only loads of exciting photos but also, and most importantly, with the improved aesthetic knowledge that equipped me the ability to be critical. I have been in the 365 project for over 3 years, it is the first time that the photo from this trip photo is elected as the top 20 photos of the week.

_-2I wanted to say how much we both enjoyed our trip and how much we learn from you!!! Still it does seem a bit frustrating at times (I guess that’s normal). I am glad you think we have  both improved (well William did say he didn’t even know how to switch on a camera on our first workshop!). I am feeling I am getting to know my Nikon, but I think this takes time. Your courses always inspire me to take the time to use it more.

THANK YOU RICHARD, I had an awesome experience and you were great at your job!

My partner booked me a one day one on one photography tour with Richard as a surprise xmas present. Communication was excellent with Richard leading up to the tour (after I received the gift) and really wanted to tailor the day around what I like to shoot. He had already researched my photography page to get an idea of the shots I might like. The weather on the day was a little too good, however Richard made sure we good some good shots. Throughout the entire day I always felt comfortable with Richard and felt as though the ball was in my court. I wasnt pressured to go anywhere I didnt want to or take shots that were not of my interest. Richards knowledge in photography was amazing, I really learnt so many new things as well as coming away with some riper shots. I would honestly recommend this to anyone of all levels. Thanks again Richard

Well, I definitely had a great time again on our workshop out at Cape Palliser. Felt very happy and content when I was sitting in the plane to go back home, probably had a big smile on my face. It’s these kind of weekends when I realize how much I love photography and being out in the nature, the combination of both really, going to wild places in the nature and do nothing but concentrate on taking pictures. Again, I learned a number of things, thank you very much for that! You are doing a very good job in teaching the technical stuff but also to get your head around the topic, how to choose a good spot for shooting, to watch out for those little things that might look interesting in a picture … and to be patient and wait for the right moment

Uta Machold, Cape Palliser Weekend Workshop, October 2015

On a recent trip to Wellington I went on a 2 day tour with Richard to the beautiful Cape Palliser. I found him to be an excellent teacher both in terms of helping with composition as well as more technical aspects and I came away with some very impressive shots. He was very accomodative and friendly throughout. I would highly recommend a tour and will likely return in the future

Loved the Tongariro workshop with Richard Young. An awesome place to visit, photograph and be inspired!

Spent a wonderful weekend at Tongariro National Park under the guidance of Richard Young on a weekend workshop. It was a fantastic time, learned a lot, met some great people and captured some images that I am really happy with. I would recommend Richard’s landscape workshops to anyone that is interested in landscape photography and I would definitely look at booking on another workshop with Richard again. The small group size is fantastic. Thanks Richard for a weekend of learning and inspiration!

Richard prepared a one-day workshop tailored to my learning objectives after a preliminary discussion from across the Tasman Sea. I flew to Wellington from Sydney to do the workshop and Richard immediately made me feel very comfortable as he went about assessing where I was at, providing direct tuition and setting me some challenges. Richard delivered a well-planned schedule beginning with a discussion and some informal teaching in his studio before heading out to some beautiful, diverse but accessible locations in the environs of Wellington. There was plenty of time to seek clarification around my understandings and to learn many new tips and techniques. The travel time between locations was not wasted as we were able to talk about all things photography as well as Richard sharing his passion and knowledge of the natural beauty of New Zealand. I finished up truly inspired for my journey to the wonderfully scenic South Island of NZ.

Chris Carmody, Bespoke 1-day Wellington tour, February 2015

During a business trip to New Zealand and Australia, I had a day off to explore. I looked at a number of different photographers to do a one day workshop. I chose Richard’s workshop because his long exposure portfolio spoke to me. There’s a soulfulness to it that belies the simple, graphic compositions. During the workshop, he taught me the technique and gave me a reproducible process that I’ve since used on a number of occasions. The image of the Otaki boulder was produced with him. I highly recommend his workshops

Joe Graf, Bespoke 1-day Wellington Tour, November 2014

I enjoyed your course very much and learned a huge amount of things, technically but also to get my mind set a bit more towards landscape photography instead of just taking pictures. Even though I have been a keen photographer for many years it does take this extra bit of thinking to consciously work on certain topics and themes instead of just taking a number of snap shots… Thank you very much for your teaching and sharing your enthusiasm!!
